SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says that there is a “slight error” with the current design of Starship’s forward flaps, necessitating a few small but visible changes on future prototypes of the spacecraft.
Measuring 9m (30 ft) wide and approximately 50m (~165 ft) from tip to tail, Starship is the combined upper stage, spacecraft, tanker, and lander of a two-stage, fully-reusable rocket with the same name. While SpaceX has a long ways to go to achieve it, the company’s ambition is for Starship and its Super Heavy booster to be the most easily and quickly reusable spacecraft and rocket booster ever built, nominally enabling the same-day reuse of both.
Beyond a Space Shuttle-style heat shield of blankets and ceramic tiles, the Starship upper stage is meant to achieve that reusability by descending through the atmosphere and landing unlike any other spacecraft, plane, or rocket ever flown. Instead of flying, gliding, or knifing through the atmosphere nose or tail-first, Starship freefalls perpendicular to the ground for the last few dozen kilometers (~10–20 mi) before aggressively flipping into a vertical orientation at the last second and landing propulsively on its tail. Now, according to Elon Musk, two of the four ‘flaps’ that largely make that exotic maneuver possible are set for a small but significant redesign.

At Tesla’s AI Day event, Elon Musk unveiled the Tesla Bot — a humanoid robot that uses much of the tech found in Tesla’s car to perform such tasks as getting groceries or attaching a bolt to a car with a wrench. Oh, and a prototype is set to be ready next year.
The Tesla Bot will stand at 5’8” and will weigh approximately 125 pounds. Fortunately, for those who fear a possible robot uprising, the team at Tesla is building the Tesla Bot in a way that “you can run away from it… and most likely overpower it.”

On Thursday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled the Tesla Bot, which runs on the same AI used in Tesla’s autonomous vehicles. This surprise reveal was shared at the end of Tesla’s AI Day presentation. Musk revealed very few details about the humanoid robot besides the fact that it is 5″ 8′ and weighs 125 pounds.
The Tesla Bot is to be built from lightweight materials, and its head will be fitted with the autopilot cameras used by Tesla’s vehicles for sensing the environment. The Bot will be operated by Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) computer.
As Tesla focuses on Artificial Intelligence (AI) upgrades for its electric vehicles, there has also been a focus on the Dojo supercomputer, which is intended to help train the EVs to navigate the streets without human assistance. Musk said that it only made sense to make the robot into a humanoid form and that it is intended to be friendly and help navigate through a world built for humans.
Are you ready?
After dominating the electric vehicle market and throwing his hat into the billionaire space race, Tesla boss Elon Musk announced the latest frontier he’s aiming to conquer: humanoid robots.
The irascible entrepreneur said Thursday he would have an initial prototype of an androgynous “Tesla Bot” by next year.
Based on the same technology as the company’s semi-autonomous vehicles, the robot will be able to perform basic repetitive tasks with the aim of eliminating the need for people to handle dangerous or boring work, Musk said at an online event on Tesla’s advances in artificial intelligence (AI).
I’d like to see anything as far as a Humanoid Robot. But, at this point i think it would be a mistake to try and re invent the wheel. Boston Dynamics last sold for 2 billion dollars, a steal really, and a shame they didn’t try to bring it back to the USA. Anyways, as far as Humanoid Robots, unless he is willing to solve the issue of building robotic hands that can perfectly match human hands this wont go anywhere. Once that is done though you have a realistic labor force for the Moon and Mars.
Tesla Inc. showcased its artificial-intelligence systems on Thursday amid renewed criticism for Autopilot, its most-talked-about AI-based system, as it unveiled its next big project: a humanoid robot.
At the company’s first AI Day, Chief Executive Elon Musk gave a preview of the Tesla Bot, a 5-foot-8-inch robot with a screen for a face, weighing about 125 pounds and capable of moving about 5 mph — slow enough for people to run away from and small enough so a human could overpower it, Musk joked. He said a prototype is expected next year.
Musk said building a humanoid robot is a logical next step for Tesla, since, he said, it’s already “the world’s biggest robotics company,” with its cars basically robots. The humanoid robot will use all the tools in Tesla’s vehicles — sensors, cameras, neural networks, etc. — to autonomously navigate the outside world.
The 23rd SpaceX
Commonly known as SpaceX, Space Exploration Technologies Corp. is a private American aerospace manufacturer and space transportation services company that was founded by Elon Musk in 2002. Headquartered in Hawthorne, California, the company designs, manufactures, and launches advanced rockets and spacecraft.
Could prove useful when robots try to terminate us. 😃
The robot slicing that pea pod in half, lengthwise with a samurai sword was very impressive. Where is Kenshin Himura when you need him.

You’re on the PRO Robotics channel, and in today’s episode we’re going to find out if humans have a chance of defeating robots. In today’s world, robots are increasingly replacing humans in various fields. More and more often we hear that robots are leaving humans unemployed, increasingly taking over the world and humans simply don’t stand a chance anymore. Is this true? Depends on the type of competition, watch the top battles between robots and humans and find out what we can do better than smart machines.
