Food inflation is the next big threat to Canadians’ finances

Food inflation could hit 6 per cent in the coming months. After that, it’s anyone’s guess.

  1. Foods take up a small portion of income of residents in wealthy countries (Canada, the US etc). Inflation might push that up perhaps 5% is hardly something to worry about. Think of people in poor countries where earnings don’t even feed them in normal times. 5% more might push them over the edge to perpetual hunger.
